Mission Statement
The Commonwealth Regional Council is one of twenty-one regional Planning District Commissions serving all Virginia regions. The purpose of Planning District Commissions, as set out in the Code of Virginia, Section 15.2-4207, is to encourage and facilitate local government cooperation and state-local cooperation in addressing, on a regional basis, problems of greater than local significance.
The Commonwealth Regional Council serves the Counties of Amelia, Buckingham, Charlotte, Cumberland, Lunenburg, Prince Edward and the Town of Farmville. Charter Members also include Longwood University and Hampden-Sydney College. Each member locality, and both charter members, have a seat on the Council.
In addition to planning the Council also markets the region for economic development, assists companies looking to locate or expand their businesses in the region, and promotes recreational, cultural, and historical tourism in the region.
