Projects
Council staff assist local units of government in planning new programs and projects, securing grants and loan funding for implementation of those programs and projects, and managing some of the programs and projects. Examples of current or ongoing projects which the Council has helped to plan and/or manage are as follows:

- Project Administration Services (Construction Projects)
- Project Administration Services/Technical Assistance (Planning Projects)
- Providing Regional Governmental Services
- Providing Regional Governmental Representation/Monitoring (by Staff)
Economic Development
Council staff also work in Economic Development marketing of Virginia's Heartland. The regional economic development strategy includes increasing recreational, historic, and cultural tourism; expanding the region's retail services; attracting retirement communities; and, attracting diversified industrial based businesses.
